Is It Possible to Quit an Addiction on My Own Without Any Help?

Question by CDF&DSM: Is it possible to quit an addiction on my own without any help?
[rewrite]This may sound weird but my addiction is benadryl… I know there aren’t any addictive substances in benadryl but I was told that the brain can become addictive to anything that gives it pleasure if you take it for long enough. I’ve been taking between 15 to 20 25mg tablets for about a year now. I’ve stopped before and on the second day I always feel extremely sick. So sick that I can’t stand it so I take some more. But now I have A LOT of will power. Is it possible to actually quit? Will it be dangerous for my health?

Answer by Acid09
If necessary hold an intervention. Get the addict to go to a detox clinic. Then get them involved in a program that specializes in treating prescription drug abuse. Regardless of your addiction, only a very small number of addicts ever stop on their own and most who do enter treatment relapse at some point.
