The initial taking of the drug is free choice. That same moment it becomes an addiction free choice is removed. During rehab, the physical dependancy is usually about 10 days. But the areas of the brain that stopped working because the drug replaced the natural chemicals needed for normal functioning are much longer.Then the issues of why one started drugs in the first place can take many, many years to get over.
