What Is Better When It Comes to Drug Abuse? Drug Prevention (Programs Like DARE) or Drug Treatment (Rehab)?

Question by Daewon_ton: What is better when it comes to drug abuse? Drug prevention (programs like DARE) or drug treatment (rehab)?

Best answer:

Answer by Gary B
It is MUCH better to not get hooked in the first place, than to try to get “unhooked”. In other words DARE is better than rehab,

Since the drugs really screw up your sense of reason, much damage is done BEFORE the user finally gets to the point that rehab will help. In fact, may junkies DIE (OD or get killed) before they ever reach the point of wanting rehab.

Parents Are Worried About Me Moving Out and Living on My Own.?

Question by Kyle: Parents are worried about me moving out and living on my own.?
I’m getting ready to go to a 9-month program for music in NYC in January, I’m 21 years old and currently live with my parents about 45-50min away in Connecticut. I’ve struggled with drug addiction since I was 18 and as a result I dropped out of my first College and then failed out of another 1.5years later. I’ve been in treatment for over a year and I’m doing very good. I’m planning on doing a music production program in the city and am very excited to finally study/learn something I have a real passion for. I’m also planning on renting an apartment in the city so I don’t have to commute 6 times a week and also because I feel like it’s the next step in the evolution of my life to move out of my parents house and live on my own.

Who Out There Can Give Me a Little Insight to the Social Services Field. What Do You Do on a Daily Basis?

Question by shannwater: who out there can give me a little insight to the social services field. what do you do on a daily basis?
I am trying to decide what to go to school for and social services seems to be pulling at me. But what specific field should i go into? Addictions, families, children, elderly? I am looking for some advice from people already in those general fields who can tell me the ‘goings on’ of their jobs. Is the pay worth the stress and self fullfilment of helping people? Any advice at all would be helpfull as i dont even fully know if i want to study this field. i bet knowing another language, i.e. spanish, would help incredibly. Thank you!
