Group Therapy/support Groups in Hagerstown, MD?

Question by Rebecca P: Group therapy/support groups in Hagerstown, MD?
I live in Hagerstown, Maryland, and am looking for any support group or group therapy available in Hagerstown or nearby… not Frederick because I don’t drive, though. I am looking for a group in any or all of the following areas:

-Depression
-Anorexia/Bulimia
-Self-harm
-Trauma/PTSD/Abuse Survivor
-General mental illness

I’m not interested in AA, NA, OA, or NAMI because I’ve been to NAMI and OA and didn’t like them particularly. I don’t abuse alcohol or drugs so they aren’t suitable… any ideas? Places? Resources? I looked in the yellow pages and with various mental health agencies and am not having much luck. It’s so frustrating since Hagerstown is quite small… help, please?

Prescription Pill Abuse?

Question by Less Confused: Prescription Pill Abuse?
Why is it not a bigger deal?

There’s all kinds of anti-drug propaganda about marijuana. You can’t watch TV without see one of those silly commercials. But even the strictest person has to realize marijuana is the least of anyone’s problems.

Everyone I know abuses prescription pills. Hydrocodone, oxycodone, Xanax…many more I can’t name. Middle aged housewives trade these amongst themselves like candy. They give them to their children to calm them down…I’ve witnessed this on many occasions.

Almost everyone has a prescription for some type of “nerve pill” or pain pill…yet it’s impossible for everyone to have that kind of problem.

The War on Drugs Has Become the War on the American People
By John W. Whitehead
10/17/2011

“On July 29, 2008, my family and I were terrorized by an errant Prince George’s County SWAT team. This unit forced entry into my home without a proper warrant, executed our beloved black Labradors, Payton and Chase, and bound and interrogated my mother-in-law and me for hours as they ransacked our belongings… As I was forced to kneel, bound at gun point on my living room floor, I recall thinking that there had been a terrible mistake. However, as I have learned more, I have to understand that what my family and I experience is part of a growing and troubling trend where law enforcement is relying on SWAT teams to perform duties once handled by ordinary police officers.”—Maryland Mayor Cheye Calvo in testimony before the Maryland Senate

Have You Ever Had One of Those Real Life Situations That Cause You to Pinch Yourself……?

Question by : Have you ever had one of those real life situations that cause you to pinch yourself……?
…cause you might be dreaming?
Here is one from my life… see if you can top it.

My bro-in-law has a bad Opiate addiction. Oxycodone. But also mixes in Morphine some times. He has lost everything good in his life… jobs, wives, kids, homes, cars, belongings, health, friendships, etc. We helped him into detox and rehab a few times… to no avail. He robs and steals and makes a living selling other people’s stuff. He keeps chasing the high and buying and selling drugs and working with corrupt doctors to sell prescriptions for them. He recently moved to another state to get away from his life here in Virginia. He moved in with his mother and looking for a job.
