How Can I Talk to My Friends About an Addiction?

Question by goode_times_die: How can I talk to my friends about an addiction?
I have a cocaine addiction, I need to talk to my friends about it but the problem is, one of my friends mother and father died from the very same addiction. I watched his mother slowly and painfully die. I can’t figure out a way to bring up a touchy subject like this. Can anyone help me out?
I thought I should mention this one, I already have been through rehab for alcoholism. Witch kind of complicates things for me a little bit more.

Ask a good one to go to an NA meeting with you. Tell them the truth. They might get pissed at first, but they’ll help if they are real friends.

Just say it. When you do say it, have a plan to start a treatment or therapy with a counselor. You may have an underllying mental illness (which is ok) that you will discover through all this. Usually when a person seeks street drugs or alcohol, they are just self medicating an underlying mental illness. You should not be ashamed of this. The mere fact that you are reaching out to us is a beautiful beginning. Keep it up, you are great!!!!!

if i were you id go to an NA meeting or two before telling them. get yourself on the right path, so that when they do find out they understand that you are trying. Also, once you tell them, let them know this is somethign that you want for yourself and that you will need support in order to overcome it. your friend who lost his/her parents is still touchy about it, sit them down first and let them know before veryone else. say; i know you went through this and i wanted to ask you guys for support, but i understand if you dont wnat to be involved in my life untili get clean (that will allow them to step aside while you deal with this, becuase its hard to watch somone make the same mistakes other peopel in your life have made). after that friend chooses what they want to do, you can tell the rest of your friend sin a group. remember, i said to go to an na meeting or two before telling them; i think that this will ease the discomforts of the friend who lose his.her parents. good luck!
